Prof. Tamer Abuhmed, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Director of the Information Research Laboratory (InfoLab) at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious 2026 SKKU Rising-Fellowship.

About the Fellowship
The SKKU Rising-Fellowship is one of Sungkyunkwan University’s distinguished faculty honors and special support programs, recognizing outstanding early- and mid-career faculty members who have established themselves at the highest domestic or world-class level in their academic fields, as well as researchers whose exceptional achievements demonstrate strong potential to develop into globally leading scholars.
Recipients are selected through a rigorous university-level evaluation process that considers not only the quantity of research output, but also the academic excellence and qualitative significance of research achievements, citation impact, publications in leading journals and conferences within each discipline, international scholarly activities, and overall global research influence.
In 2026, a total of 12 SKKU professors, including Prof. Tamer, were selected for this distinction.

The Award Ceremony
The 2026 SKKU Rising-Fellowship Award Ceremony was held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, with SKKU President Yoo Ji-bum, representatives of the Sungkyunkwan University Foundation, senior university administrators, and other university officials in attendance to recognize and congratulate the recipients.
As part of the fellowship, Prof. Tamer will receive special university support over four semesters, from the Fall 2026 semester through the Spring 2028 semester, to further support the pursuit of outstanding research and academic excellence.

Research Leadership at InfoLab
Prof. Tamer is the founder and director of the Information Research Laboratory (InfoLab) at SKKU, where his research focuses on developing secure, reliable, interpretable, and trustworthy artificial intelligence systems. His research spans Trustworthy AI, Explainable AI (XAI), adversarial machine learning and AI security, information security, data science, and AI for healthcare and biomedical applications.
Under his leadership, InfoLab has conducted internationally recognized research addressing some of the central challenges surrounding the safe and responsible deployment of artificial intelligence. The group’s work includes improving the robustness of machine-learning systems against adversarial attacks, understanding and explaining complex AI decision-making processes, developing trustworthy AI frameworks, advancing AI security, and applying machine learning and deep learning to biomedical and healthcare problems.
Prof. Tamer and his collaborators have published research in internationally recognized journals and conferences across artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and biomedical AI, including work appearing in venues such as IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, Information Fusion, the Network and Distributed System Security Symposium (NDSS), the Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (EMNLP), and the ACM SIGKDD International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD). His research on explainable and trustworthy artificial intelligence has also received substantial international scholarly attention.
The 2026 SKKU Rising-Fellowship recognizes these sustained research achievements, their international academic impact, and Prof. Tamer’s continued contributions to advancing trustworthy, secure, explainable, and biomedical artificial intelligence.
